I have been playing Rocket League for so long and for as long as I can remember, I have only been performing aerials using the air roll button, which means all my movements were pretty much limited to two dimensions at once. I can either control roll and pitch or yaw and pitch, but never roll and yaw and pitch.
Enter stupid directional air roll. Apparently, an amazing technique which if you master it, you can control your car in all three planes at once. Honestly, I’ve been putting it off for a long while because every time I tried to pick it up, I was atrocious at it. It’s such a new experience trying to figure out how the controls work because I’ve played this game for over 5 years, with almost 1400 hours invested in it now. At this point, my muscle memory is so efficient that I can perform aerials without thinking about it. And now I must unlearn 5 years of aerial training to understand this new directional air roll mechanic.
To be fair, if I do master it, it might not mean much for my competitive rank, but it would be one hell of a personal achievement. And I don’t know anyone other than myself who’d be impressed with learning a stupid Rocket League mechanic, so here we are.
I’m gonna post a clip on YouTube of me doing the Leth Rings map with normal air roll and then trying it with directional air roll on Day 2/3 of learning it, and hopefully in a week or two when I do an update on it, I can compare and see some progress here.
